Hi Rueben,

We had a dicussion at practice about standing outside of the field during play. Having passed my Advanced (twice) I was 100% sure that it wasn't allowed. But in the interpretations ( rule 11.2 ) it now says that players can leave the field whenever they want to ( except for one non-Spirited example ).

I can remember that it used to be Not Allowed to leave the field ( if it wasn't for your momentum carrying you over the sideline ), but can it be that that rule has been changed recently ? And can you explain why ? Because to some's opinion that gives the Offence player an extra tactical advantage, moving out of sight of his/her defender.

Thanks at forehand, Ted

In 2001 there was this clause in the rules:

Receiving players may not go out-of-bounds to make a play on the disc

But that rule does not explicitly say you can't go OB and then come back in.

When the rules were reformatted in 2006, no similar clause was included.

So there has not been a recent removal of any rule like that, to my knowledge.
But you should still not do it in an un-spirited way.

Hope that helps.
